Employment Opportunities with Livable Wages
Customized Training
Recognizing the necessity of expanding job opportunities with livable wages for residents, Sojourner-Douglass College has significantly upgraded its workforce development capacity by acquiring the workforce component of Baltimore's recently completed Empowerment Zone operation. Administered by the highly-regarded Empower Baltimore Management
Corporation (EBMC), this unit is recognized as one of their most successful components. The value they bring
to Sojourner-Douglass and to our capacity-building efforts is the proven ability to develop customized training
contracts with employers. These contracts provide employer specified training, guaranteed placement and livable wages for participants who are successful.
Continuing Education
Sojourner-Douglass College has long been noted for successfully
training adult learners seeking to improve their professional standing. The College offers several mini-courses,
seminars and other innovative programs especially designed for people who need to fulfill employment related requirements,
increase professional competence, prepare for new jobs or careers, or even pursue personal interests. These non-degree
courses are offered through Sojourner-Douglass´ Continuing Studies Department.
Workforce Transportation and
Referral Center (WTRC) This transportation brokerage provides commuter services for low-income workers with jobs in employment centers
throughout the Metropolitan Region that are not served by public transportation. The WTRC also serves as a business
incubator for small transportation services by providing entrepreneurial training, administrative and management
support.
