Dean Evans Travels to London, England
Presents Research Paper at Oxford University
Shirley M. Evans, Dean of S-DC, was invited by the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Virginia Tech to participate in the Fifth Annual Jean L. Curcio International Women's Leadership Conference.
Dean Evans, a reserved academician, had to be convinced that the trip to London, which took place last year from July 24-31, was worth noting in The Chronicle. The conference was held at Exeter College, Oxford University. Twenty women were nominated as educational leaders who possessed both the ability to contribute as a presenter or to benefit as a participant.
According to Dean Evans, This experience was one of the most memorable of my academic career. I gained a wealth of information from others which will enhance my relations with colleagues and students at S-DC.
The conference is named in honor of Dr. Joan L. Curcio who was a professor at Virginia Tech, and a leader in mentoring and enhancing the professionalism of women in education. Dr. Curcio's works were established at Oxford University, and she coordinated the annual Educational Leadership and Ethics Conference held at Oxford from 1989 until 1999.
Dean Evans´ contribution to the conference was a paper based on her doctoral dissertation research entitled Non-traditional Female Learners and College Education. Participants had many questions regarding the presentation, and commended Dean Evans for the uniqueness of the information she shared.
