Strengthening Our Community

We want a self-sustaining, economically healthy community. Some say it’s not possible in Baltimore. We’re building it. Sojourner-Douglass College is committed to the process of improving the community because we are the community. Our Office of Community Outreach is empowering students and community residents to create social, political and economic change. We provide the knowledge and resources needed to change the circumstances of our environments – to be a part of the solution.

The Office of Community Outreach’s proven programs have created change in the past and continue to effect even greater change today. Our staff has gained solid experience while working with a wide range of community residents. With the help of our partners, we are succeeding in workforce development programs, welfare-to-work assistance programs, entrepreneurial training, and commuter transportation services. Together with faculty, students and neighbors, we’re building on our vision of a whole, vital and self-determined community that holds fast to the promise of the future with realistic optimism.
