Community Solution Space
The Office of Community Outreach supports neighborhood development with a
solution orientation. It is our goal to provide the latest technology
available to help communities find solutions to the many complex challenges
we face.
For example, the NavCenter ®, a state-of-the-art collaborative planning
environment designed and patented by Matt and Gail Taylor, visionary
architect and educator, respectively, is being installed at Sojourner-Douglass
College. This environment, to be known as the Community Solution Space, will equip
community residents with the latest technology for planning and problem
solving.
When stakeholders enter this environment, all titles and organizational
hierarchies are removed. Participating as peers, they take part in intense
group dialogue and problem solving with the help of specially trained
facilitators called Knowledge Workers. T he result is a written, functional
plan reflecting the participants' "group genius."
In the Community Solution Space, residents benefit from their collective
energy, values, thoughts and dreams. In this environment, they become change
agents planning for the future together. With resources such as the
Community Solution Space, the College helps to cultivate self-determined
residents who are able to correctly define problems and develop workable
solutions.
